ABOUT THE CREATOR

Lisa Johnson Smith is a born "creative". She is also a walking miracle and wants to share her testimony with the world.

I began my professional career soon after graduating from Temple University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and landing my dream job at BET as the host and producer of an award-winning, live talk show called "Teen Summit". From there, I went on to host and produce shows on HBO, CNN, ABC, MSG, NBA TV, and TV Land, to name a few.

After 20-plus years in the television industry, my entire career came to a screeching halt after being diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer where I found myself faced with the biggest fight of my life. After overcoming potentially fatal complications, blood transfusions, undergoing 5 surgeries, and chemotherapy, I was completely healed. I attribute my healing to the power of God. Mid-cancer journey, I filed for divorce after 24 years of marriage. Through these simultaneous trials, my faith in God was tested, but my relationship with God deepened.

The scriptures in all of Urban Denomination's designs are the scriptures that got me through many painful, dark, and tear-filled days and gave me strength when I had none. I repeated them daily until they became a part of me. Today, my desire to share the Word of God upon which I so heavily relied during this time has intensified. Because without having God's Word to lean on, I wouldn't have made it.

This is when URBAN DENOMINATION was born.

I also host a podcast called " Trust Me You Can Relate" where I share inspiring stories of ordinary people who have overcome extraordinary circumstances.

Most of all, I am the proud and doting mom of three amazing young men—my favorite job and my greatest achievement. I also love to paint, and have commissioned several works. From portraits, to abstracts, I paint whatever inspires me to pick up my brushes.
